The Tactile Chemistry Kit

"Knowing without seeing is at the heart of chemistry" - Roald Hoffmann

This kit is the first of its kind. Designed for blind and visually impaired students, this kit uses tactile textures and is completely 3D printable.

Each kit features Carbon, Oxygen, Hydrogen, Nitrogen, Sulfur, Phosphorous, Boron, Halide atoms and detachable bonds as well as a Tactility Legend to identify each atom. These pieces can be used to build simple and complex molecular structures without the need to see.

Accessibility and Equity

Designed for the blind and visually impaired

Our distinct tactile patterns enable users to distinguish atoms and bonds without the need to see.

3D printed

Our kit can be printed on even the most budget friendly 3D printers with the most inexpensive filaments. Typical injection printed accessibility kits have low manufacturing runs and can be prohibitively expensive. Our kit employs the economic savings inherent in 3D printing, allowing students and schools to print as many kits or pieces as they need.

Computer-aided design

By using computer-aided design (CAD), we can generate prototypes accurately and efficiently. The CAD files can be easily shared, which would allow users to 3D print our designs at their leisure.
